The Green Bay Packers are going to be without Aaron Rodgers for the rest of this season after he broke his collarbone against the Vikings yesterday.
Packers coach Mike McCarthy has been adamant since the injury that back ups Brett Hundley and Joe Callahan are his quarterbacks moving forward. Hundley has been in the Packers offense for three years and while he is well versed in the offense, he has not played much and threw three interceptions yesterday.
The Packers like Callahan but he is untested in the regular season and lacks experience.
Green Bay needs a veteran back up and if they are going to go that route, why not sign Kaepernick. It makes sense. Here are three reasons why they should.
1. Experience: Kaepernick has plenty of experience as a starting quarterback in the NFL. He has started 69 games in his career and thrown for over 12,000 yards. Kaepernick has 72 career touchdown passes and 30 interceptions during that. He has far more experience than Hundley and Callahan and he would be a good fit in the Packers system.
2. The Packers Have a Talented Skill Group: Kaepernick thrived in San Francisco when he played under Jim Harbaugh and had talent around him. The Packers are well coached and have one of the most talented skill groups in the NFL. Kaepernick could potentially thrive in Green Bay and turn his career around.
3. He’s a Wisconsin Guy: Kaepernick grew up a Packers fan in Milwaukee. He is a Wisconsin guy. It would be a dream come true for him to play for his hometown team. Green Bay and the state of Wisconsin would embrace Kaepernick. Wisconsinites love their own. They would welcome Kaepernick with open arms.
The Packers need to sign Kaepernick if they want to save their season. They are a fringe playoff team at best with Hundley at the controls. Kaepernick allows them to not only contend for a playoff spot, but if he plays well enough, the Packers could stay in the Super Bowl contention.
