First & 10: Ten Thoughts on What is Going On in the World of Football

Rex Burkhead will be a bigger part of the Patriots offense than people think.

1.It is about time Dont’a Hightower made a decision! Jeesh! By the way, I don’t think it is a lock that he is re-signing with the Patriots.

2. Yes. It is time for the Patriots to trade Malcolm Butler. They won’t pay him elite money and he doesn’t want to be in New England unless they show him the money. Let him go to New Orleans where he can lose and get paid.

3. The Patriots paid  running back Rex Burkhead $3.15 million on a one year deal. That tells me they see him as a big part of the offense next season. You don’t give a guy that kind of money just to play special teams and return kicks.

4. The Packers passed on Eddie Lacy because he put on 30 pounds since the end of last season. The Seahawks signing Lacy could be a worthwhile gamble for them if they can get his weight down.

5. Speaking of the Packers. They have lost Micah Hyde, T.J Lang, Eddie Lacy, Datone Jones and J.C Tretter in the first week in free agency. The only loses in that group were Hyde and Lang. The Packers weren’t willing to over either of them, so they both moved on. Green Bay drafts as well as any team in the league. They will be fine.

6. Adrian Peterson not having a market is not that hard to believe. He is 31 going on 32. He is “old” in running back years. I still think he ends up in Minnesota.

7. DeMarcus Ware is a first ballot Hall of Famer. As far as I know, he had a pretty good relationship with the media so he should get in on his first try in 2021.

8. Boston College opened spring practice today and the top priority will be to figure out who will be the starting quarterback. Will it be Darius Wade or Anthony Brown? Th offensive staff would love for it to be Brown.

9. Smithfield High School (R.I) recently hired Weston High School and URI grad Cy Butler as their new head football coach. Butler is a terrific hire for the school. He has a great resume both as a player and as a coach.

10. The Pittsburgh Steelers finally dipped their toes into free agency by signing wide receiver Justin Hunter. Hunter fits the Steelers receiver profile. He is 6-4.
