The Seattle Seahawks signed wide receiver Doug Baldwin to a four year, $46 million dollar extension yesterday. Baldwin had a monster season in 2015 hauling in 78 passes for 1,069 yards and 14 touchdowns.
Naysayers will say that’s a lot of money for a receiver like Baldwin but it’s not. Baldwin has developed into one of the most consistent and reliable receivers in the league. His numbers last season are proof of that.
The Seahawks are going to be more balanced offensively moving forward without Marshawn Lynch. That’s why it was important to get Jermaine Kearse and Baldwin locked up this off season.
The tandom has developed into one of the league’s best pair of starting receivers in the NFL and they’ll continue to get better. I expect them to take another step forward this season now that both players are signed long term.
Pete Carroll values his core guys. He sees Baldwin as one of his core guys and that’s why he was willing to sign him to a hefty extension. It’s a smart move because Baldwin is on the cusp of stardom.
