FOXBOROUGH – Despite being a ticketed event – along with media members being allowed to bring their families for the day – the stands were still packed for the latest Patriots training camp practice on Saturday.
Those that came out may have been a bit miffed that the team did most of its work on the field furthest away from them (selfishly it was great for us), but as long as they were able to get past that, the offense put on quite a show for huge crowd at times.
Here’s everything that went down in Foxborough…
Red Zone 7-on-7
Drake Maye: Incomplete out to Pop (wide), Romeo Doubs makes his first of several phenomenal TD catches over Carlton Davis. Doubs was a massive presence in the red zone all day…incompletion to Hunter Henry along the back line of the end zone (high), incompletion to Efton Chism III (wide), TD to AJ Brown wide open at the front right pylon (wide open after a quick little move).
Tommy DeVito: Short completion to Henry, TD to Kyle Williams in the back left corner, TD at the goal line to Henry, back line TD grab for Chism III.
Behren Morton: Completion to Nick DeGennaro shy of the goal line, great diving grab by Jack Westover just short of the end zone, throw away due to coverage.
Team Red Zone
After a brief walkthrough period, it was on to some team red zone work…
Maye: Combo run stuff for Cory Durden and Charles Woods, combo run stuff for Robert Spillane and K.J. Britt, incompletion along the back line looking for Henry, scramble for Maye (slides just short of the GL), incompletion to the back left corner looking for Brown against Craig Woodson.
DeVito: Run stuff by Namdi Obiazor, short run Jam Miller, sick leaping TD grab by Mack Hollins in the back left side of the end zone (his celebrations even in camp are OUTRAGEOUS)…combo run stuff for Kahlil Jacobs and John Saunders Jr.
Maye: TD to Hollins against Woodson (celebration wasn’t as aggressive this time)…wide open TD to Brown who shook his defender at the line of scrimmage with ease and strutted in at the front left pylon…back line TD grab by Hunter Henry.
Field Goals
After a rough preseason game, Andy Borregales went 5-6, although there was some discrepancy as to whether or not he was actually 6-6 among those in the tent. Either way, strong bounce back performance for him.
Team Red Zone (ball inside the 10)
Maye: Short run for Rhamondre Stevenson, slant to Henry, Milton Williams jumps offside, run stuff by Woodson against Stevenson, slant TD to Brown along the back line vs. Karon Prunty, PBU Prunty against Boutte in the back left corner.
DeVito: Run stuff by linebacker Riley Wilson, broken gadget play almost ends in disaster (can’t get into details due to team rules, but hopefully we never see it again), Brandon Crossley PBU on a fade to Hollins, great jump ball TD for Kyle Williams vs. Crossley.
Maye: Easy TD to Hollins, Brown drops an ugly/broken screen, TD to Henry (wide open in the right side of the end zone).
Situational period (1:05 on the clock, ball at or around own 35)
Maye: Incomplete comeback for Brown, short completion to Pop Douglas, phenomenal leaping/twisting grab on a deep ball by Boutte against Davis, another ridiculous jump ball TD grab for Doubs vs. Charles Woods.
DeVito: Nifty little gadget play ends with a big gain for TreVeyon Henderson, throw away (pressure from Quintayvious Hutchins), deep crosser to Boutte, incompletion in the end zone looking for Hollins, short completion to Eli Raridon, incomplete out to Williams (wide), incompletion to Williams in the end zone (wide).
Team Red Zone
Maye: Short run for Stevenson, outside TD run for Stevenson (good vision), yet another jump ball TD for Doubs as he just absolutely Moss’d Woods, combo run stuff for Elijah Ponder and Josh Farmer.
DeVito: Short run for Henderson, would-be sack by Leonard Taylor III, incompletion in the end zone for Hollins, incompletion in the back of the end zone looking for C.J. Dipree.
Up Next
It’s a big week ahead for the Pats. New England will have a light walkthrough on Sunday, a regular practice on Monday, another walkthrough on Tuesday and then two important joint practices with the Eagles in Foxborough on Wednesday and Thursday. The two teams will play their second preseason game on Saturday night.
Wednesday and Thursday’s practices are open to the public with gates opening at 9:15 a.m.
