FOXBOROUGH – Day 13 of Patriots training camp wasn’t full speed (probably about 80%), but the team got some good work in for just under two hours ahead of a big week.
The Colts come to town for a joint practice on Tuesday before the first preseason game of the year on Thursday.
It was a heavy red zone day after the Pats had the full weekend off. Things are about to really ramp up with practices eight of the next 10 days, including two with Philadelphia next week.
Here’s how things went down on Monday…
-Carlton Davis was a surprise return, but was limited. Will Campbell was back practicing in full. Christian Barmore, Julian Ashby and Charles Woods were absent, along with the PUP guys.
Early team walkthrough (half speed) period
Drake Maye: Short run for Rhamondre Stevenson, quick completion to Romeo Doubs, short completion to Efton Chism III, short run TreVeyon Henderson, high incompletion deep middle intended for AJ Brown vs. Christian Gonzalez.
Tommy DeVito: Short run Henderson, high incompletion, (I missed the next snap), would-be sack for John Saunders (deep completion to Kyle Williams as play continued).
Behren Morton: Crosser to Nick DeGennaro, no gain for Jam Miller, scramble.
Maye: Comeback to Brown, hand off to Henderson, crosser to Brown, Stevenson stuffed on a run, short completion to Henderson.
DeVito: Short to Chism III, screen for Terrell Jennings, batted ball at the LOS by Xavier Holmes, deep incompletion.
Morton: Seam shot for Jack Westover, batted ball at the LOS by Casey Rogers, dart on a crosser to Westover, batted ball at the LOS for Rogers.
7-on-7 red zone period
Maye: TD to Stevenson on an angle against Christian Elliss, incompletion to Pop in the back left corner against Craig Woodson, great leaping grab in the back left corner for Stevenson vs. Elliss, wide open walk in TD for Doubs at the front left pylon.
DeVito: Three straight completions to Chism with the third one a TD…back line TD throw to Westover.
Maye: Short completion to Hunter Henry, short completion to Pop, 1-handed INT in the end zone for Gonzalez in the back left corner vs. Kayshon Boutte (under thrown).
DeVito: Drop underneath by Williams, quick hitch to Chism III, TD to Henry.

Maye: Stevenson stuffed on a run, outside TD run for Henderson, TD on a crosser to Eli raridon vs. Kevin Byard, incompletion to Chism III back left corner, incomplete back right corner looking for Pop vs. Marcus Jones.
DeVito: Walk-in rushing TD for Jennings, same for Stevenson, incompletion to Mack Hollins in the right side of the end zone (would-be TD but foot lazily landed out of bounds), TD to Henry on a slant (dart).
Morton: Wide open TD to Chism III vs. Kobee Minor, Jam Miller stuffed on a run, incomplete slant.
Situational work (1:05 left on the clock)
Maye: Deep incompletion for Doubs, PBU for Gonzalez on a crosser vs. Boutte, crosser to Henry (gets OB with 46 seconds left)…quick swing to Stevenson, crosser to Henry, incomplete to the back left corner intended for Brown, Boutte slant down inside the five, sick jump ball TD for Doubs in the back left corner over Gonzalez. Highlight play of the day.
DeVito: Scramble, comeback to Hollins on the sideline (great route), sideline throw to Raridon, incompletion for Lan Larison with Kahlil Jacobs in coverage, sack (missed who it was), crosser to Westover, great leaping TD grab in the back left corner for Chism III against Marcellas Dial, almost as pretty as Doubs’ was.
The Pats also briefly worked on another no timeout, 16-seconds left situation needing a FG to win, but didn’t actually kick field goals before wrapping up practice at 11:56 a.m.
Next Up
Gates open at 9:15 for fans on Tuesday morning. It’ll be the first time the Pats get to hit another team. Joint practices have quickly become far more valuable than the actual preseason games, so if you’ve got the opportunity, head down to Gillette tomorrow for what should be a competitive, highly-entertaining couple of hours.
