FOXBOROUGH – The O-line summit of sorts Will Campbell attended in the offseason drew some attention when he posted photos to Instagram.

Spending time with veterans Dion Dawkins, Lane Johnson, Creed Humphrey and Tristan Wirfs,  picking their brains for a few days in Oklahoma can only be beneficial for the second-year left tackle moving forward.

I asked Campbell what he got out of the experience following the second training camp practice on Sunday

“Just a ton of knowledge. I mean, I worked with a ton of guys that have been around a long time and done it at a high level for a long time,” he said. “They’ve been in the league for a long time. So, just anything they could teach me, whether that’s football, or off the field training…just being around them in the same environment, I always want to put myself in the best position possible.”

Campbell was then asked how it all came about.

“Just reached out. “He (Johnson) invited me out there and I just went out there. I went with a bunch of guys in Dallas where I normally train. Rashawn Slater, Armand Membou, just a bunch of guys I always work with also. So, yeah, I had a good offseason.”

Campbell also acknowledged how dumb it would be of him to not take advantage of the knowledge that was at his disposal for those few days.

“Yeah, I mean, I think it’d be kind of dumb not to when you’re around Lane Johnson and Tristan Wirfs and Dion Dawkins, if they say something, like I said, they’ve all played almost 10 years-plus. All of them were All-Pro at some point. Yeah, I mean, they know what they’re talking about.”

Dawkins is of course a huge part of the rival Bills offense, but is now a possible resource for Campbell as his career develops.

“A guy I didn’t really know before I got out there, but I definitely feel like I can reach out to and if I need to is Dion Dawkins,” said Campbell. “I had never met him before. I had met with Wirfs and I’ve known Lane a little bit, but Dion was probably a guy I didn’t know and we got to know each other a little bit.”

It wasn’t just an O-line summit the entire time either. During some training, Campbell found himself alongside some badass dudes.

“It really wasn’t a teaching session, we just got after it,” he added. “It wasn’t a teaching session. We were just at Lane’s gym that he has to train people at. It was four, five NFL guys, a World’s Strongest Man, a former Navy Seal.

“We just got after it, that’s really about it.”

Hopefully, that weekend pays dividends for Campbell (and in turn his quarterback) heading into Year 2.
