Landry headlines group of players not cleared to practice

As the Patriots prepare to open training camp, a trio of players will begin their summer work on the sidelines.

According to ESPN’s Mike Reiss, EDGE Harold Landry III and tight end C.J. Dippre have been placed on the active/physically unable to perform (PUP) list, while running back Terrell Jennings is opening camp on the active/non-football injury (NFI) list.

These designations mean that while all three players count toward the 90-man roster, none are currently cleared to participate in practice sessions. However, because they are on the active versions of these reserve lists heading into camp, the team holds the flexibility to activate any of them at any point throughout the preseason as soon as medical staff passes them for full football activities.

It is disappointing news for Landry as he is still recovering from a knee injury suffered early last season. He missed most of the season but did dress for the Super Bowl.

Dippre has a legitimate shot to make the team as a third tight end but will fall behind Jack Westover and Tanner Arkin in that competition.

Jennings is also in the mix for the third running back spot so can ill-afford to be sidelined. He does return kicks which helps his cause but he will have to fend off Lan Larison and rookie Jam Miller if he wants to stick.
