As we inch closer to the high school football season, we are going to start looking at some teams to watch in Connecticut. We start with Class LL. Defending champion Greenwich should once again be the favorite but there will be several teams to watch as team’s that could make a push this season.

1. West Haven- The Blue Devils missed the playoffs last season but I would expect a bounce back season. They played well down the stretch and should be better in year two under coach Tom Unger. This program is too talented not to bounce back.

2. Staples- The Wreckers finished 5-5 last season but played some good football throughout the season. Coach Matt Jacowleff must figure out a way to replace quarterback Nick Weil. If he does, Staples will be a prime contender in Class LL and the FCIAC.

3. Southington– With running back Ben Beaulieu and quarterback Luke Prozzo back, the Spartans are certainly a team to keep an eye on once again. Rob Levesque did a masterful coaching job last season and this program is ready to take the next step.

4. Glastonbury- With Dante Casdia returning, the Guardians are well positioned to make another Class LL playoff run. This program has been knocking on the door the past two seasons and are finally ready to breakthrough.

5. Danbury- With a solid junior class returning, including quarterback Jake O’Keefe, the Hatters are ready to take another step and build off of a 6-5 season. If you are looking for a potentially surprising program, look no further. Augie Tieri’s squad is ready to surprise.
