Brown University head football coach James Perry has officially introduced the twenty six newest members of the Bears football family with the announcement of the incoming class of 2030.
This group is notably defensive heavy, consisting of sixteen defensive players and ten offensive players representing nineteen different states across the country.
Perry expressed enthusiasm for the group, noting their hunger to compete and praising the collective effort of his coaching staff in securing such a talented roster of student athletes.
“I am excited to welcome the class of 2030,” Perry said. “It is a talented group of student-athletes and I know they are hungry to get to campus and compete. Recruiting is a team effort, so I would like to extend a thank you and congratulations to our entire staff for their efforts.”
The defensive secondary and linebacker corps received a major influx of talent. In the defensive backfield, the Bears welcome Landan Blue from Maryland, who recorded five interceptions in his final high school season, and Deke Carpenter, a class president and dual sport standout from the Hun School. They are joined by Will Chen, a Texas all state selection and district defensive player of the year, and Adam Vessel from Houston, who brings a career total of nine interceptions to Providence. Rounding out the secondary are Mack Mrowka, a versatile athlete from California who also spent time at Deerfield Academy, and Travis Wilson, a National Merit Scholar Finalist from Connecticut.
At linebacker, the class features Hayes Beaver from Georgia, who amassed over three hundred career tackles, and Emmett Caughey from New Jersey. Gavin Jones of Tennessee joins the program as a legacy recruit, following in the footsteps of his father, Evander Jones, who graduated from Brown in 1993.
Other notable additions to the linebacker group include Tegan Jones, a state champion wrestler from Montana, Sam Kelley from Natick, Massachusetts and BB&N and Jackson Skinner, an all state selection from Oregon.
The defensive line will be bolstered by Miles Gaito from Chicago, Jonathan Kim from New Jersey, John Luke Minner from Kentucky, and Caleb White from Florida.
On the offensive side of the ball, the Bears have secured a productive group of skill players and linemen. Quarterback Messiah Jackson arrives from South Carolina having thrown for over four thousand yards and fifty three touchdowns during his final two high school seasons. He will have targets like Cole Cavanaugh, a record setting receiver from Maryland, Nico D’Orazio from Pennsylvania, and Saphir Miller from Florida.
The ground game adds Tyrone Neal and Desmond Ortiz to the backfield. Protecting these playmakers will be a new group of offensive linemen including Jack Harrison from Maryland, Seamus Henry from Catholic Memorial, Flynn Malgieri from New York, and Colin Overy from Colorado.
Many of these student athletes cited Brown’s unique Open Curriculum and the tight knit culture established by the coaching staff as the primary reasons for their commitment. For several, like Jonathan Kim and Gavin Jones, the decision also carries family significance as they follow parents who are Brown alumni. This diverse class is expected to begin their journey when Brown opens the 2026 season on the road against Yale in New Haven on September 19, followed by their home debut at Richard Gouse Family Field against Harvard.
