His footwork is efficient, allowing him to transition from a speed rush to a bull rush seamlessly. He shows active hand-fighting skills to prevent offensive linemen from latching onto his chest.
Key & Diagnose: A high-IQ defender (FBI) who rarely bites on eye candy or misdirection. He keys the ball quickly and often gets a great jump on the snap. His read-and-react skills allow him to sniff out screens and draws before they develop, showing a pro-level understanding of offensive line tells.
Lateral Pursuit: Parker has the athletic fluidity to “get over the trash” and navigate through traffic in the trenches. He possesses loose hips that allow him to flip and sprint in pursuit. Pass Drop: While primarily a downhill defender, Parker shows competent movement skills when asked to drop. He can turn his hips and gain necessary depth in short-to-intermediate zones. He looks comfortable in space and maintains awareness of crossers entering his area.
Pass Coverage/Hands: He demonstrates the hip fluidity required to run with tight ends or backs in man-to-man situations. He isn’t a “fish out of water” in coverage; he stays sticky enough to disrupt passing lanes and shows natural timing when turning to locate the football.
Final Scouting Report: TJ Parker is a “complete” EDGE prospect who provides immediate value as a three-down player. His combination of technical hand usage and high-level football intelligence makes him a high-floor prospect. While he has the finesse to win as a pure pass rusher, his greatest asset may be his disciplined run defense and relentless pursuit. He projects as a scheme-versatile starter who can play as a traditional 4-3 defensive end or a stand-up 3-4 outside linebacker.
