There’s still a lot of work to do for Boston College when it comes to reshaping the roster.

But, BC took the first step towards rebuilding the most important room with a commitment on Sunday afternoon.

Saginaw Valley State QB Mason McKenzie officially committed to the Eagles despite getting some interest from JMU, Temple, Eastern Illinois, Colorado State, UTEP, Arkansas State, Wyoming, Southern Miss, New Mexico State, North Texas, Elon, Western Carolina and Western Illinois.

McKenzie has a 58.2% completion percentage in his career, 4,301 passing yards, and 31 touchdowns to 17 interceptions. ratio. He’s also a bit of a dual threat, with 1,673 rushing yards and 18 touchdowns on the ground.

The biggest factor between all of those schools and BC? The ability to develop guys that can play in the NFL. Despite a 2-10 year, it’s still arguably the best thing Bill O’Brien and his staff can offer to recruits.

It certainly played a factor in McKenzie committing.

“BC stood out to me for a bunch of reasons,” he said in a brief chat on Monday morning. First being, the opportunity to play at the highest level and play against some of the best competition in the country. Second, I get to play for and be coached by Coach O’Brien, who has been around some of the best to ever do it. I think Boston College gives me the best chance to play at the next level.

“The people in the building are amazing and all have a like mindset, I feel like I can build strong relationships with all of them.”
