7 Points on the Patriots’ 42-10 win over the Jets

EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ – The Patriots got off to a fast start offensively and never looked back, trouncing the New York Jets 42-10 Thanks to a career day from Drake Maye and a dominant defensive performance, the Patriots toyed with the hapless Jets en route to picking up their 13th win of the season.

Here are seven points from today’s game…

1. Explosive start: The Patriots scored 14 points in the first quarter and built a 35-3 halftime lead. They turned this game into a laugher right out of the gate and never looked back. Coming into the game, the hope was that they would do just enough to get the win and get out. Mike Vrabel’s team had other plans as they established themselves as the better team early and did not look back

2. Maye’s record day: Drake Maye had a career day completing 19-of-21 passes for 256 yards and a career high 5 touchdown passes. He had a passer rating of 157. The Jets secondary is the worst in the NFL and Maye and the Patriots feasted on them today in a blowout win.

3. Maye surpasses 4,000 yards on the season: Maye surpassed the 4,000 yard mark today for passing yards in a season. He joins Tom Brady who did it 11 times in his career and Drew Bledsoe who did it twice. Maye is in elite company already which bodes well for the future.

4. Diggs another big game: Diggs had his fifth 100 yard game of the season. The Patriots needed him to step up with the injuries to Kayshon Boutte and Mack Hollins and he did. Diggs is the Patriots number one receiver and he certainly played like it today. He is starting to come on at the right time of the season.

5. 8-0 on the road: The Patriots finished undefeated on the road this season. It is the third time that they have done that. The 2007 and 2016 Patriots also finished undefeated on the road. It is an impressive accomplishment when consider how bad things have been the past two years. Winning on the road is hard in the NFL. Winning all of your games is very impressive.

6. Chism catches his first touchdown pass: Efton Chism caught his first career touchdown pass and finished with 2 catches for 40 yards on the day. It was an impressive debut performance and it puts the Patriots at ease after losing Hollins and Boutte last week.

7. Pats fans turn it into a home game: I would say the split in this game was 50/50, Patriots to Jets fans. The Patriots fans turned out big time and practically made this a home game for the red, white and blue. It is a stark contrast from the last time the Patriots were here against the Jets, a 24-3 loss on Thursday Night Football.
