FOXBOROUGH – With a scheduled day off on Sunday, the Patriots were back in pads outside a sweltering Gillette Stadium on Saturday morning.

The biggest crowd so far saw some good back-and-forth from both the offense and defense with plays being made on both sides. The fans also got their first glimpse of rookie EDGE Gabe Jacas who practiced in a limited role for the first time.

A few guys were given veteran maintenance days (Ramondre Stevenson, Aliah Vera-Tucker, Marcus Jones), while Christian Gonzalez practiced again, but was also given a bit of a breather. AJ Brown was also in that same group after tweaking something, but he appeared to be fine. Kyle Williams left practice at one point too, but returned a bit later after working through something on the second field.

Maye’s day & other early 7-on-7 highlights

Drake Maye has been much more consistent the last few days, basically ever since the pads came on. He did have one bad ball that was picked off by Dell Pettus in a team period, but he was once again pretty good overall. In early 7-on-7 he hit Romeo Doubs twice, AJ Brown and Lan Larison for short completions during the first ‘series.’ Christian Elliss made a sick pass breakup somewhat deep down the field covering Pop Douglas.

Tommy DeVito had a great throw and Kyle Williams made a better diving catch on the sideline in the lone series of the period for DeVito.

Competitive team periods

This was the first day the team worked almost full-field drives. Drake’s first full 11-on-11 series included completions to Brown (slant), Doubs (short middle) and Tanner Arkin. Pettus picked him off the first snap of the second series on a ball downfield that was seemingly to no one in particular. He hooked up with Pop over the deep-ish middle (Pop has been very, very good so far) and he had a fantastic back shoulder throw to Kayshon Boutte on the sideline.

Milton Williams was good in the run game while TreVeyon Henderson once again showed some shiftiness when he had room. DeVito was up-and-down, throwing an absolute deep dime to Pop at one point, but he threw a late interception to Karon Prunty too. Doubs had a good day catching the ball, seemingly always getting opened, but fumbled once and a teammate fell on it. Lan Larison also had a fumble too.

Borregales continues his run

I’ve mentioned him a bunch in the last week, but he’s been pretty damn good. It was a perfect 5-5 day for the second-year kicker, once again drilling all of his kicks between 35-50 yards. Borregales is now 21-23 so far in camp during ‘live’ kicking periods and continues to show he’ll be a reliable source of offense this year.

Looking ahead

It’s a Monday-Friday week for the Pats next week, with Monday and Tuesday’s practices (10:15) open to the public before a closed walkthrough on Wednesday and another closed practice on Thursday. Friday opens back up with gates opening at 9:15. Next week will be the final week of camp before the preseason begins, heading into a joint practice with Indy on August 11.
