Using a potent rushing attack that racked up 298 yards and a defense that generated six turnovers, King Philip beat rival Milford 34-0 on Friday night to improve to 7-0 on the season.
The Warriors offense struggled to get on track early thanks to a stout Milford defensive front but the Warriors were able to adjust and outscore the Scarlet Hawks 20-0 in the second half.
Head Coach Brian Lee says his likes the way his team responded after facing some early adversity in the first half.
“We saw a lot of guys in the box and we wanted to have answers in the second half. Coaching staff does a great job with that and the kids responded.”
Here are three observations from the Warriors win.
1. Patience is a virtue: The Warriors offense struggled early on but they stuck with their patented running game and it paid off for them in the second half. Keigan Canto led the way with 15 carries for 112 yards and a touchdown. Fellow senior running back Tallan King had 15 carries for 75 yards and a touchdown. Fullback Ryan Greenwood also quarterback Zach Gebhard also scored rushing touchdowns in the win. Senior fullback Kyle Danson caught the only touchdown pass of the game.
2. Defense dominates: The King Philip defense forced 6 total turnovers in the win and outside of two drives, they were able to clamp down on a young Milford offense that struggled to get anything going offensively. The Warriors defense has once again been good this season and they are peaking at the right time.
3. Warriors set a physical tone: A typical King Philip win for the Warriors. They set a physical tone upfront, ran the football and wore down the Milford defense. They didn’t need to make plays in the passing game. They leaned on the tried and true formula and it worked.
