We recently caught up with Tabor Academy defensive back Mikey Landers to talk about his commitment to Boston College. Here is what Landers had to say about why he chose Boston College.

NEFJ: What made BC the right fit for you?

ML: “Boston College felt like the right fit for a lot of reasons. Being close to home was important to me and BC has always been a special place because I grew up going to games with my family. My mom is an alum, so I’ve had a connection to the school for a long time. On top of that, every coach I met made it clear that the program is built on a family culture. The combination of the relationships with the coaching staff, the opportunity to compete in the ACC and feeling at home made BC the easy choice for me.”

NEFJ: What stood out about the campus compared to others you’ve visited, if you have this early in the process?

ML: “What stood out most was that the campus felt connected. Everything felt close and easy to get to, which made it feel like a community. I also had the chance to work out inside Fish Field House and that was a top tier facility. I can picture myself training there which makes me feel confident about my decision.”

NEFJ: What was the message from the staff in terms of what they’re building? What was dealing with the new staff like?

ML: “The coaches made it clear they’re building a family. They want a team where everyone supports each other and works towards the same goals. My experience with the new staff was great because they saw my potential and were excited about developing me as a player. I loved how they didn’t hesitate, they saw traits they liked and offered me. That confidence meant a lot to me.”

NEFJ: What was ultimately the biggest factor that led to the decision, again especially with so much time left in the possible process?

ML: “Ultimately, the deciding factor was that Boston College offered the complete package. The combination of its prestigious academic reputation, high-level football program and the culture the coaches have built made it feel like the right fit. Once I realized I had found all of that in one school, I knew I didn’t need to wait.”

NEFJ: What should BC fans know about you?

ML: “BC fans should know that I am the oldest of four children and we are all athletes who have always pushed each other. That’s helped shape my work ethic and I’m excited to bring that mindset to Boston College.”
