2017 NFL Draft: Day 6 Combine Thoughts

By John Sarianides

The defensive backs had their opportunity to impress scouts on the final day of the combine and boy did they ever.

Here are ten takeaways from the last day of the combine.

1. UConn safety Obi Melinfonwu went from being a second round pick yesterday to a first round pick in my opinion. Melinfonwu was impressive. At 6-4 224, he ran a 4.4 and vertical jumped 44 inches. He had a broad jump of 11.9. Those are great numbers for his size. Melinfonwu is a freak athlete.

2. USC corner Adoree Jackson also shined yesterday. Jackson has flown under the radar a bit but he had a terrific workout and proved he belongs in the conversation as a late first rounder.

3. Ohio State free safety Malik Hooker did not workout yesterday further complicating his draft position. It will be interesting to see where teams put on him their draft boards. The talent is there but the injuries are a concern.

4. Washington cornerback Sidney Jones had a solid workout and solidified himself as a top 15 player in this draft. The Marcus Peters comps are spot on.

5. LSU safety Jamal Adams was very unimpressive. He ran a 4.56 forty and he didn’t really stick out to me in positional drills. He’ll still be a top ten pick however based on his body of work.

6. Alabama cornerback Marlon Humphrey had a solid workout but the buzz at the combine was his game film. Humphrey is inconsistent on tape and as a result will probably drop into the middle to late second round.

7. Marshon Lattimore ran a 4.36 forty with a hip flexor. Impressive!

8. Lattimore’s Ohio State teammate Gareon Conley had a good day yesterday and stayed in the conversation as a potential late first rounder.

9. UCLA corner Fabian Moreau is the most underrated defensive back in this draft. He ran a 4.35 forty, vertical jumped 38 inches and had a broad jump of 11.4. I think he is a first round talent and with a strong pro day, Moreau could find himself going in the 28-32 range.

10. Florida cornerback Teez Tabor called himself the best player in this draft and followed that up with a 4.63 forty and an unimpressive positional drill workout. Moral of the story. DON’T TALK! Just work out.
