Day 4 of the combine featured John Ross breaking Chris Johnson’s combine record in the forty yard dash, the quarterbacks exceeding expectations and the tight ends living up to the hype.

Here are ten thoughts from Day 4 in Indianapolis.

1. Washington wide receiver John Ross will jump up team’s draft boards after recording a 4.22 forty. It is the fastest forty time in Combine history. It surpassed Chris Johnson’s 4.24 forty time from 2008.

2. DeShaun Watson had the best day of any of the quarterbacks. He tested well but more importantly he looked good in the passing drills portion. Watson looked smooth and fluid in his drop and his mechanics were clean.

3. I like what I saw out of  North Carolina quarterback Mitchell Trubisky. He ran a 4.67 forty and he threw the ball well. Trubisky showed good arm strength and he was accurate on timing throws.

4. The tight ends really lived up to their billing as maybe the greatest class of all time. The forty times were impressive, especially Ole Miss’ Evan Engram who ran a 4.42. That’s very impressive for a guy who is 6-3 236.

5. O.J Howard solidified his standing as the number one tight end in the class but I also think he proved he is one of the twenty best prospects in this draft. He had a terrific workout.

6. Clemson wide receiver Mike Williams didn’t run the forty but he was impressive in the other measurable drills. He looked the part catching the ball in the position workout. Williams is a sound route runner who displays good body control and strong hands.

7. Penn State wide receiver Chris Godwin went from a third or fourth round talent to potentially going in the middle to end of the second round. Godwin ran a 4.42 forty and displayed great routes, hands and body control in the position workout.

8. I am not as impressed or enamored for that matter with Texas Tech quarterback Patrick Mahomes II. I thought he had a very inconsistent position workout. You saw the arm strength but Mahomes struggles with accuracy and his mechanics are all over the place.

9. Toledo tight end Michael Roberts was one of the most productive players in college football last season but he really struggled on Saturday. Roberts looked stiff as a route runner, ran upright, double caught balls and he ran an sluggish 4.86 forty. Not good for a player who came into the Combine with high expectations.

10. Georgia State wide receiver Robert Davis and South Alabama tight end Gerald Everett both impressed. Davis ran a 4.4 forty and benched 225, 19 times. He ran good routes and showed strong hands in his position workout.

Everett ran a 4.62 forty and lived up to the billing as one of physical gifted tight ends in a loaded class. Both players moved up teams boards with their performance today.
