The Tennessee Titans and Los Angeles Rams pulled off a blockbuster pre-draft trade this morning. Here’s how it breaks down.

Titans Receive

Pick #15
Pick # 43
Pick #45
Pick #76

Rams 2017 1st Round Pick
Rams 2017 3rd Round Pick

WOW. Kudos to new Titans GM and former Patriots front office executive Jon Robinson for making this trade. Robinson made it no secret that he was shopping the number one pick and he got a hell of an offer as a result. Robinson could have stood pat and taken a Laremy Tunsil or a Jalen Ramsey. Instead, he decided that it was more important to fill multiple needs and rebuild the roster than to take one player. I’ve always felt that if you have a top five pick, especially in a year where you have a strong quarterback class, you shop the pick. Even if you need a quarterback. Put the pick out there and see what you can get for it.

The Titans are still in prime position to address some of the their biggest needs. They need to find an athletic left tackle who can protect Marcus Mariota’s blindside. Ronnie Stanley, Jake Conklin and Jason Spriggs could all be available at 15. If not, they can go secondary and address the cornerback and safety positions. Either way, they have a ton of flexibility with 6 picks in the top 76 of this year’s draft.

As for the Rams, they paid a steep and I mean steep price to acquire that face to the franchise they so desperately need. Its more than likely going to be Carson Wentz. Word is, the Rams loved his combine workout and they’ve spent a lot of time with him. He’s their guy. No one with half a brain actually believed Rams GM Les Snead last month when he said that Case Keenum was going to go into next season as the starting quarterback. That was the worst attempt at a lie in NFL history. The Rams knew if they were going to take the next step in a tough division, they were going to need an elite quarterback. Wentz could be that guy.

There is no question the Rams overpaid but in a way, they had too. It was important that they created a buzz in Los Angeles. Making this move is certainly news worthy and it will get Rams fans excited. Time will tell what type of an impact it will have on the Rams. In three years, we could be calling this trade the best move the Rams have made in years or we could be blaming this deal for why the Rams have been a bust in L.A. If nothing else, the Rams may find out what the Redskins feel like now.

The Titans got the better of this deal in the short term. I think this trade will enable them to accelerate their rebuild and field a competitive team in 2016. As long as Robinson doesn’t get trade happy like Belichick and starts wasting picks on stupid trades, this deal will pay off for the Titans.
