WESTWOOD- The Catholic Conference held its first annual showcase on Thursday night. Over 40 college coaches from all three levels of football were on hand to watch some of the best players in Massachusetts and New England.
The showcase was broken down into testing stations and position drills. It was organized by the head coaches and the Xaverian coaching. Assistant coach Mark White did a great job of making sure the showcase met MIAA and NCAA rules and he ran the event on the field. Hat tip to Coach White.
Here are some players that stood out to us.
Carter Carroll, QB, 6-3 215, B.C High: Carroll has good size and throws a nice ball. He did a good job of locating his fade ball and corner routes in one on ones. New coach Paul Zukauskas has to be happy with what he saw from Carroll last night.
Elijah Alcorn-Crowder, 6-3 265, OL/DL, B.C High: Crowder is well built, thick and he moves well laterally and vertically. He showed good get off and movement skills in both the testing and drills portions. He is projected to play on both sides of the ball but he profiles more as a defensive player at the next level.
Ben Howard, 6-3 220, TE/DE, Malden Catholic: Howard is an impressive athlete. He is quick off the ball, twitchy and has good length. He needs some refinement as a pass rusher but the skill set is there for him to be elite at the next level. Howard should be one of the top players in the Catholic Conference this season.
Luca Matos, WR/S, 6-1 180, Malden Catholic: I like Matos length and movement skills. He is fluid as an athlete and is sudden in his breaks and getting into the top of routes. He displayed strong hands and showed the ability to separate vertically.
Riley Selvais, WR/DB, 5-9 163, St. John’s Prep: Get to know the name. Selvais will be a good player for the Eagles in the next few years. Prep coach Brian St. Pierre told us he reminds him of the Rockett brothers. That is high praise. He will be a freshmen this fall but already has the skill set of an older receiver.
Jake Hall/Jeff Quigley, RB’s, St. John’s Prep: I put both backs on the list because I thought they looked physically and I liked their footwork in drills. Hall is the power back in the duo at 5-11 180 while Quigley is more of the one cut scat back at 5-8 170. Both should play a prominent role in the Prep running game this season.
Paul Hanlon, WR/TE, 6’3.5 225, St.John’s Shrewsbury: Hanlon caught our attention both in the drills portion and one on one’s. He has length, is highly competitive and he moves well for his size. He could play as a move tight end or defensive end in college. Am intriguing prospect in the Class of 2025.
Stephen Ntim-Gayakari, WR/S, 6-2 190: Ntim-Gayakari made some eye popping plays in one on one’s and looks like a legit FCS prospects. He has length, athleticism and is fluid in his movements. An under the radar senior to watch in the Class of 2025.
Micah Amedee, OL/DL, 6-3 270, Xaverian: The Boston College commit had a strong workout and proved why he is a Power 4 talent. Amedee is explosive, twitchy and plays with strong hands and power. He was impressive last night.
Ethan Jean, LB/ATH, 5-10 204, Xaverian: Impressive looking athlete who could play running back or in the slot offensively and could play all three linebacker spots on defense for Al Fornaro. I thought he moved well and physically looked the part.
The showcase was loaded with talent and there were several other players that popped as well. It was a good night for the Catholic Conference.
The two boys from cm you mentioned were not at the catholic conference college recruiting camp.
Thank you for letting us know.
