Darien has a new head football coach. Long time assistant Andy Grant will be taking over for Mike Forget who resigned from the program after the season. Grant has been the defensive backs coach for the past 12 years under Forget and his predecessor Rob Trifone.
The Blue Wave finished this past season 6-4 and failed to make the playoffs. They went 12-1 in 2021 and won a state title. Forget went 18-5 in two years but the expectations are sky high for the program and Forget ultimately decided to move on.
In Grant, Darien is getting an experienced coach who knows the program and the kids. He knows what the expectations are and what it takes to meet them. According to sources, there were several quality candidates but the administration felt that Grant was the best hire for the program.
Grant takes over a team that graduates 25 seniors but returns plenty of underclassman talent and should in prime position to contend over the course of the next two seasons.
One of the biggest openings in New England has now been filled. The Blue Wave open the 2023 season at North Haven.
