Boston College: Eagles begin offensive line rebuild by adding Hergel

Jeff Hafley has always said he doesn’t want to live in the portal but after a 3-9 season, Hafley and his staff will have to  dip into the transfer portal this off-season if they want to turn things around.

The Eagles got their first portal commitment today when former Texas State offensive lineman Kyle Hergel committed to the program. Hergel is a 6-2 305 pound guard from Toronto Ontario.

According to PFF, Hergel only gave up 8 total pressures on 491 pass plays (99.1 efficiency). He only gave up one sack all season. Those are impressive numbers considering he played in a pass first spread offense.

The Eagles offensive line struggles were well documented last season so Hergel will be a welcomed addition. He should compete right away to start and if nothing else, provides depth at guard and right tackle.

For Hergel, it is an opportunity to play in the ACC and enhance his profile and draft stock for 2024.

I suspect that the Eagles are far from done revamping the offensive line. Don’t be surprised if they add another two or three offensive lineman from the portal this off-season.
