College: Week 5 Top 16 Poll

The FBS schools won a couple of big games while Holy Cross and Harvard played a doozy at the Stadium. All part of another great weekend of Division One College Football action in New England.

Here’s our poll for this week.

1. Holy Cross (5-0): The Crusaders reinforced their legitimacy with an impressive road win at Harvard. They host Bucknell at Polar Park this Saturday.

2. Harvard (2-1): Crimson battled against Holy Cross but fell behind early and couldn’t come back. A trip to Cornell is an opportunity to get back on track.

3. Yale (2-1): Bullish on the Bulldogs after their win over Howard. The door is open for Tony Reno’s team to make a run in the Ivy League. They host Dartmouth this week.

4. URI (3-2): Rams were impressive in their 38-10 win over Brown. They have won the Governors Cup four straight years and are going into a bye this week.

5. Stonehill (3-0): Skyhawks beat Duquesne to earn their first FCS and NEC win. They have a bye this week before traveling to Sacred Heart the following week.

6. UNH (3-2): Wildcats were no match for Western Michigan but will look to bounce back this week at home against Stony Brook.

7. Sacred Heart (3-2): Pios are rolling now after beating Norfolk State. They have won 12 in a row at home.

8. Merrimack (3-2): Warriors survived a challenge at home from LIU to go over .500. It’s off to Duquesne this week to take on the Dukes.

9. Dartmouth (1-2): Gut wrenching loss to Penn in OT. Big Green don’t have much time to lick their wounds. They travel to Yale this week.

10. Boston College (2-3): Eagles picked up a much needed win over Louisville. Now they hope they can carry that momentum into this week’s Red Bandana game against Clemson in prime time.

11. UConn (2-4): The most impressive thing about last week’s win over Fresno State is the resiliency and toughness the Huskies showed. A winnable game at FIU is on the schedule this week.

12. UMass (1-4): The Minutemen played arguably their best game of the season but fell short at Eastern Michigan. A return home to face Liberty on Saturday is on tap.

13. Brown (1-2): The Bears will look to rebound after a tough loss to URI in the Governors Cup game. A trip to Central Connecticut State could be the rebound game they need.

14. Bryant (1-4): Bulldogs couldn’t get the offense going against N.C A&T in a 24-13 loss. A visit from Southern Connecticut should help the O get on track.

15. Maine (0-4): Black Bears hung tough for a little while but Villanova was too much. A trip to Hampton is on tap for this weekend.

16. Central Connecticut State (0-5): It’s been a tough stretch for the Blue Devils and it doesn’t get any easier this week with Brown coming to town.
