UConn: Huskies pick up two big New England commitments in McDonald and Harper

The UConn Football program had a good day in local recruiting on Thursday after landing commitments from two of the top 2023 recruits in New England in Wachusett quarterback Tucker McDonald and Avon Old Farms wide receiver Jackson Harper.

Both had national offers and both decided on the same day that they wanted to stay closer to home and play at UConn.

The opportunity to play closer to home for Jim Mora and his staff was a big reason why McDonald commited to UConn.

“The coaches had a big factor in my decision. The love they showed me on my visit and how excited they are about me – it made me feel awesome. The coaches are great people and awesome to be around.

McDonald added: “I am glad that I found my home.”

In a short amount of time, Mora and his staff have created an environment where players want to either transfer to UConn or commit to the school out of high school. UConn has always recruited it’s fair share of talent but this staff has raised the bar and as a result, better talent has committed to the program.

In the highly competitive New England recruiting landscape, it was important for Mora and his staff to establish themselves in the region with the 2023 class. Landing commitments from two New England recruits like McDonald and Jackson does that. The commitments reinforce that this staff has strong ties to the region and that they will be in the mix for any local prospect in the coming years.
