UConn: Huskies pick up commitments from offensive tackle Toriyan Johnson and defensive end Cleto Chol

UConn picked up a commitment from two Proctor Academy products yesterday. First, offensive tackle Toriyan Johnson committed and then defensive end Cleto Chol committed.

The 6-8 320 pound Johnson is raw. He has great size, length and moves well for a big man but he will need some time to develop.

Johnson held an offer from Maine and Robert Morris as well. In the end, he decided to take the UConn offer now rather than wait it out for other ones to come in.

It is a smart move for Johnson as the Huskies staff obviously thinks they can develop him. With a 7’2″ wingspan, Johnson certainly has the length to play either right or left tackle. Ultimately, where he plays will come down to his development and footwork.

Chol is also raw but at 6-6 240, he has the length and first step quickness coaches look for in a defensive end his size. Chol has enough of a frame that he can easily add more weight and either stay outside or kick inside.

Chol had seven offers total. He held offers from UMass, URI, UNH, Bryant, Lafayette and Yale as well.

Like Johnson, Chol also has a basketball background and you can see the basketball influence in his game.

Both players need to be developed but they have terrific upside. Getting a commitment from both is a coup for Jim Mora and his staff.

Monday was a banner day for the Proctor Academy Football program. It was a good day for Johnson, Chol and the program.
