UMass: Minutemen add size and toughness with Cole Garcia

Another day, another commitment for the Minutemen. Rice graduate transfer offensive lineman Cole Garcia announced today that he is committing to UMass.

Garcia was in Amherst over the weekend on an unofficial visit. He met with Don Brown, offensive line coach Alex Miller and the rest of the staff.

The recruiting pitch must have worked because Garcia picked UMass over offers from Jackson State, New Mexico State and UTEP.

The Dallas, Texas native has two years of eligibility left. He made 23 career starts at Rice. He offers versatility in that he can play guard or tackle.

The 6-4 320 pound Garcia adds size and a physical element to the Minutemen offensive line. He will also provide some much needed experience as UMass will be inexperienced at a couple of positions up front.

Brown, recruiting coordinator Jeff Moore and the rest of the staff continue to work hard to rebuild the roster. What they have done thus far is impressive.

  1. The coaching staff must be aware of all potential players in the portal but fair to say I’m hoping they read your blog to highlight 2 notables they should target particularly positions of great need, Linebacker, wide receiver & tight end. These 3 players are Michigan State transfer: 4-star LB Ma’a Gaoteote & wide receiver Ricky White & Trenton Gillison.Brown has got to know them , they are proven already having played and also have a connection to the recent signee Edge rusher from MSU, Tyson Watson. I once LOL when I heard Walt Bell proclaim he wanted his program to emulate Eastern Michigan ( perhaps I was mistaken) at which I could only think this program is in worse hands then I thought. No Walt MSU is the program to emulate. I went to both schools UMASS and MSU, I am a former UMASS athlete (Gymnast) who also coached in the Bigten so very familiar with Big time athletics. I am passionate about sports pray for UMASS to make it big in football and return to glory in BB (only if they unload the coach will that happen, there I said it) Go get these players they are up fro grabs, be aggressive, it will give UMASS a recruiting footprint once they start signing these guys which can be done. Excellence should be the new standard and a future in the Big Ten is what the AD ought to be considering, don’t laugh folks it can be done, Hockey started the standard complete the circle and it would a natural completion for the Big Ten footprint into NE.
