High School: 10 Thoughts on Thanksgiving

Fans came back in droves on Thursday. The combination of people missing the tradition and a beautiful morning, fans came out to support, the players, coaches and schools.

  1. Xaverian and St. John’s Prep played another classic. These two always play tight games on Thanksgiving typically and this year was no different.
  2. Franklin’s come from behind win gave them the Kelley-Rex title and they finished 10-1. You can make the argument that this was the best season for the program since 1982.
  3. Mansfield’s impressive 35-21 win over Foxboro was a preview of what’s to come. The Hornets could be very good next season. They have several skill players returning, most notably quarterback Connor Zukowski and wide receivers C.J Bell and Trevor Foley.
  4. The Marblehead, Swampscott game was the best game of the day. The Magicians won 31-28 on a last second field goal. This rivalry has produced some classics in recent years and this might have been the best game of them all.
  5. Records go out the window between Wellesley and Needham. The Rockets didn’t have a good season but they once again came to play and the two schools gave us another classic.
  6. The same can be said for North Quincy, Quincy which gave another dandy of a game. N.Q prevailed but Quincy proved that they are a program on the rise.
  7. Hat tip to Mark Nutley and his staff on leading Hingham to a big win over Scituate. The Harborman needed a signature win and they got it on Turkey Day.
  8. Everett was impressive in their first meeting against St. John’s Shrewsbury. The Crimson had a talented senior class but there is plenty of talent coming up in the next two years.
  9. Brockton salvaged a tough season by beating Bridgewater-Raynham and winning another league title. Boxers coach Peter Columbo announced after the game that he is returning for one more season
  10. How good is Catholic Memorial? They played an eighth grader in the second half against B.C High. That’s absurd. Oh and Peter Borque is the next in line potentially.
