NEFJ Game Previews for Week One

Bob Chesney’s Crusaders will have their hands full against Navy’s spread triple option offense.

It’s week one of the college football season. Here are our previews and predictions for our local college programs for this week.

Holy Cross at Navy: Bob Chesney’s Crusaders will have their hands full with Navy’s spread triple option offense. The Midshipmen are not as potent as they once were offensively but the option still give opposing defenses problems.

Holy Cross will have issues defending the option but this game will be close because they will move the ball and score points. That will be enough to keep them in this game.

Sacred Heart at Maine: The Nick Charlton era begins tonight at home against the Sacred Heart Pioneers. Sacred Heart can run the football well and they are athletic but Maine is more talented and they are at home. Expectations are high for the Black Bears but they are good enough to meet them. They should have no problem getting off to a good start.

URI at Ohio: The Rams travel to Ohio to battle the Bobcats. Ohio is a perennial contender in the MAC. Frank Solich’s team is always disciplined and well coached. The Rams will have their hands full but one thing we have learned about this program under Jim Fleming is that the Rams compete. They will play hard but they do not have enough to compete with Ohio for four quarters.
